Heathside's Future

Suffolk County Council Cabinet Committee approved the merger of Heathside and Belstead Schools, from September 2010, in September 2009.  This now means that governors and staff can start identifying the actions needed to ensure a smooth transition to becoming one school (on two sites) next year.  A lot of this work will fall to a new committee of governors from Heathside and Belstead that has been created with representation also from the Local Authority.

The the intention is for the new Heathside/Belstead School to be co-located on the Westbourne site in 2014 as part of the Building Schools for the Future programme.  Plans for the new school are still some way from being drawn up but the consultation process will give some indication of location on the “master plan” for the site.

The building of a brand new primary school for Whitehouse Infants and Juniors under the Primary Capital Programme, which will be open in 2012, has created an exciting opportunity for the Heathside Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception classes) to be co-located within the new school.  Heathside governors have seen the draft plans for the new primary school and have approved, in principle, the co-location of the Foundation Stage in the new building.  The plans for this development will be displayed as part of the consultation process and you will be able to view them here at Heathside or at Whitehouse and Westbourne schools.

The Governing Body is excited about the wonderful opportunities that the Primary Capital Programme and Building Schools for the Future will present for our children and their families.  The children at Heathside, and the young people at Belstead, deserve state of the art 21st century facilities in which to receive the best education possible and governors are committed to ensure that this is the case

We would encourage you to take the opportunity to have a look at the plans and to make any comments that you feel appropriate.  Plans are on display in the entrance corridor.(click here for pdf)

SWISS Partnership to become SWISS Trust?

After 5 years of successful and exciting collaboration the SWISS Partnership Schools are exploring the benefits of becoming an educational Trust.

The governing bodies of the individual schools consider that the plans to develop the SWISS Partnership into a SWISS Trust represents a natural progression to the collaborative work that has already taken place. The Trust will enable the development of a more formal, sustainable and legal partnership between the schools and introduce an exciting range of external partners.

We'd like to know what you think about the SWISS Partnership forming a new educational trust. We want to make sure that you know about the benefits of trust status for our Partnership of schools and what the proposed changes will mean for our own school and community. We also need you to give us your feedback, so that the outcome reflects your wishes and we can be sure to address any concerns.

More information is available at www.swisspartnership.org. Here you can find a comprehensive Consultation Document, an extensive series of Frequently Asked Questions and the opportunity to complete a simple Feedback Questionnaire online. Printed copies of the Consultation Document and the Questionnaire are also available from the school.

Whether you are a parent or carer, governor or member of staff, or a member of the local community, please find out about the proposed changes and give us your feedback via the Consultation Questionnaire. This consultation will be open from 1 October until 13 November 2009. A series of 'drop in' consultation sessions have also been arranged at SWISS Partnership Schools.
